So here's a paradox in Justice and Equity. Wesley Snipes is sentenced to 3 years in jail because he did not file tax returns while 3 police officers are exonerated for killing an unarmed man. The aforementioned statements don't create a paradox in and of themselves, but the next bulletpoints do:
1. Wesley Snipes is going to Jail for 3 years for not filing his taxes. He is not going to jail for refusing to pay his taxes. An appropriate remedy could have been a levy on everything he owns until he pays the $250,000 in taxes.
2. The Police Officers in the Sean Bell shooting were acquitted of all charges including Reckless Endangerment. Reckless Endangerment is the reckless disregard for the potential danger in a situation.
So here are the problems:
1. If Wesley Snipes's crime is for financial malfeasance, why wouldn't his punishment be specific to a financial remedy.
2. If Police Office Oliver fired his gun for 45 seconds, stopped with no return fire, and reloaded and continued to shoot, didn't he prima facie have a reckless disregard for the potential danger that was present. If his bullets were found in a neighboring house and Amtrak train, isn't that proof enough that he, at least had a reckless disregard for human life?
American Justice is at a Paradox.
